European Truck and Van Market Sees Major Manufacturer Moves
Europe’s commercial vehicle market is seeing significant strategic moves by leading manufacturers. Turkish truckmaker BMC is accelerating its expansion, unveiling the Pro L 1852 tractor at Solutrans, targeting the competitive long-haul segment with a 520 hp engine and European drivetrain. Volvo Trucks reinforced its heavy-duty leadership, capturing a 19% market share in 2025, led by nearly 33,000 FH Aero orders.
In the van segment, Renault will take full control of the Flexis electric van venture, with production of the Trafic Van E-Tech electric scheduled for late 2026 at Sandouville. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz plans to launch its NextGenH2 hydrogen fuel-cell truck in small series later this year, featuring a twin fuel-cell system and long-haul capabilities, with full rollout expected by 2030. These developments highlight the industry’s shift towards electrification, alternative fuels, and strategic European expansion.
