EU Loosens CO2 Rules for Trucks Ahead of 2030 Deadline
The European Commission has proposed targeted amendments to CO2 credit rules for truck manufacturers between 2025 and 2029. With heavy-duty charging infrastructure still lagging, Brussels will allow manufacturers to generate carbon credits as soon as they exceed annual emissions targets, rather than following a strict linear path to 2030. This flexibility helps truck makers build credits ahead of the 2030 milestone, when emissions from vehicles over five tons must fall 43% versus 2019. Urban buses are excluded, as their zero-emission rollout is already advanced.
