Spain Aims to Become Europe’s Next EV Production Hub
Spain is positioning itself as a major European hub for electric vehicle production, emphasized at the 6th Anfac forum. Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo highlighted the need to counter rising protectionism, Chinese competition, and the transition to sustainable mobility. Through innovation and economies of scale, particularly in battery production, Spain aims to achieve price parity with combustion vehicles by 2026–2027. The country’s “España Auto 2030” plan seeks to reinforce Spain’s position as Europe’s second-largest car producer. Industry leaders also stressed the EU’s insufficient battery capacity, calling for a coordinated long-term strategy.
