European Car Market Grows Amid Mixed Trends
Europe’s car fleet continued to expand, reaching nearly 256 million vehicles in 2024, with light commercial vehicles concentrated in France, Italy, and Spain. Registrations grew modestly in 2025 (+2.3%), led by Volkswagen and Renault, while Stellantis and Tesla struggled and Chinese brands gained nearly 6% market share. Entering 2026, the market slipped (-3.9% in January), with hybrids dominating (39%) and battery-electric vehicles rising to 19.3%. Overall, Europe’s fleet grows steadily, electrification is rising, but market performance remains uneven.
